Job Title: Category Manager RTD, Non Alcoholic & Key Accounts
Level: L5 (M2)
Reports To: Category Manager Larger, RTD, Malt & Key Accounts
Context/Scope:
Guinness Nigeria PLC (GNPLC) is a major market for Diageo. A key contributor to the success of the GNPLC strategic plan is an effective Customer Marketing team demonstrating industry leadership- translating trade strategy and brand Game Plans into a world class Commercial plan – winning the visibility war at the point of purchase and meeting both trade and consumer needs.
Dimensions:
- Financial
- 30% of brand budget is spent on reward and Point of Sales items, 20 – 35% on promo activation.
- Total spend on below the line (BTL) is usually about 50 – 65% of total budget.
- Up to 60% of below the line budget is spent on Point of sales & reward items
Market Complexity
Liaises with:
- Field sales to ensure plans are executed with excellence
- Marketing team to ensure activities are in line with timings.
- Consumer Planning &Research to leverage shopper & Category drivers understanding.
Purpose of Role:
Deliver Sustainable Competitive advantage for GNPlc by:
· Effectively Managing activities with field sales to deliver Category share volume & Moment of Choice (MOC) Targets
· Ensuring all BTL activities are developed and executed in line with targeted channel, shopper & customer needs and on time
· Enabling Joint Value creation with customers
· Winning at the MOC via Brilliant execution
Top Accountabilities:
· Category Knowledge Capability. Developing sound, executable capability on Category and Channel trends, shopper/consumer Insights and their translation into activity design and development
· Insight Based Activity Design by Channel. Translating sales & Category Drivers into activities that enables GNPlc win at retail. Developing and providing the selling concepts (winning customer proposition) that enables field sales to secure customer support for GNPlc BTL activities
· Activity Management. Design trade plans for activities with X-functional team to win with customers & channel and enable the sales force to execute brilliantly. Rigorous end-to-end activity tracking and M&Es
· Coaching. Category training for field sales.
· Lead the development and deployment of Category BTL Activities including by channel customization
· Accountable for end-to-end execution of category BTL activities
· Category A&P BTL budget effectiveness and M&E including ongoing tracking and evaluation
· Development and deployment of activity toolbox to the sales force in line with GNPlc customer marketing standard (sales & trade briefs, sales aids, POS, selling tools etc)
· Provide insights that guides the brand team in strategic decisions via data analysis and market understanding
· Supporting x-functional team work within own category team
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
- Strong capability and able to coach others in Insights, Sales Drivers, Outlet Segmentation and Managing Relationships
- Minimum of 3years field sales experience
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Strong track record infield sales
Barriers to Success in Role:
· Being out of touch with trade, shopper/consumer and field sales due to too much time spent in the office
· Inability to collaborate effectively with the category teams and field sales.
· Inability to generate insights and translate them into specific actions
· Loss of personal integrity.
· Inability to properly identify risks, and plan mitigation steps.
Flexible working options:
· Based at HQ in Lagos.
· Head office max 75% of time, in trade min 25% of the time.
