The Red Cross recruiting Nigerian Graduates in Abuja

The West Coast Regional Representation of the International Federation is located in Abuja, Nigeria and supports the Red Cross National Societies of seven countries in West Africa (Benin, C te d’lvoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Togo). These National Societies receive technical support from the West Coast Regional Representation in their humanitarian actions to the vulnerable population in the region. The Regional Representation collaborates with other Movement partners, international, regional and national agencies to carry out humanitarian activities across the region.

Position: Health and Care Manager

Location: Abuja

Reporting To: Regional Representative


Language(s): English and French

Contract Type: Fixed-Term

Duration: six months with possibility of extension


Purpose:

The Health & Care Manager will support the WCRR in the management and coordination of  health programmes and activities of the of the Federation in the region through the National Societies.

Qualifications and Skills

    * Applicant should have a Medical degree (MBBS) or Professional qualification as a public health practitioner with University degree and further qualifications in health administration and or/development;
    * Cross cultural sensitivity and good knowledge of West Africa region;
    * Excellent verbal and written English and French;
    * Self-supporting in computers (Microsoft spreadsheets, word processing, power point, internet and web- based searching)
    * Ability to effectively represent the organization at international levels;
    * Excellent communication, interpersonal, advocacy and networking skills;
    * Ability to work in and around team building environment and work under pressure; Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in public health and development; Experience in report writing, financial reports including planning, managing and budgeting projects
    * Experience with the Red Cross will be an added advantage.

General Duties, Key Tasks and Responsibilities

    * To provide timely and effective technical support 3nd advice to the National Societies in the region on health programmes and assure effective coordination of all health activities on regional representation level in relation to the action plan defined by the
    * West Coast Regional Representation;
    * Work in close cooperation with the health team in the Africa zone to reach the Federation’s objectives for the countries/regions;
    * Develop and maintain coordination with the different agencies involved in health on regional level and assist the NS to assure the same cooperation on country level;
    * Assist NS and regional representation to develop and implement health oriented programmes. These programmes include basic community care, water/sanitation., health components of Disaster preparedness (DP) and (DM) first aid (FA) including community based first aid (CBFA). control of communicable diseases and epidemic psychological support programmes (PSP) and reflect regional and national realities which targets the major  health problems amongst the most vulnerable in the community;
    * Serve as “professional supervisor and health team leader for regional delegation and NS health staff, ensuring good knowledge of relevant policies, strategies, standards and best practices in health care as well as acting as adviser and problem solver;
    * Stimulate and create the right level of working relationship between the NS and its government, especially in health related ministries ensuring NS knowledge about Global funding for Aids, TB and Malaria (GFATM), its country coordination mechanism (CCM), inter agency coordination committee (ICC) and that the NS is well represented where ever possible as a national partner,
    * Analyze training needs for NS and assure support for the NS through trainings in health related areas;
    * Participate in relevant inter agency meetings;
    * Develop partnerships and assure that potential donors are approached for support to health programmes
    * Produce health activity reports and share those with the NS in the region;
