A statement from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, signed by its Chief Information Officer, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, invited suitable and qualified individuals to submit applications for recruitment.
According to the statement, the recruitment would be limited to those that have a genuine desire for a career in the Police Force and possess the basic requirements.
Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police
The statement said that for the Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (CASP), candidates with a degree or Higher National Diploma in Social Sciences, Arts, Criminology and other related courses from recognised universities and polytechnics would be considered.
It further stated that eligible candidates must have a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower) degree for university graduate applicants and Upper Credit for polytechnic graduates.
It added that the candidate must be of good character and must not have been convicted of a criminal offence.
Cadet Inspector of Police
For the Cadet Inspector of Police, the statement said candidates must possess a minimum of five credits, including English and Mathematics in WASCE, NECO or GCE or equivalent qualification at not more than two sittings.
It said holders of National Diploma and National Certificate in Education, with a minimum pass in English and Mathematics at Ordinary Level, are also eligible.
Personal Eligibility Requirementss
The statement said that eligible candidates should be between ages 19 and 28, with height of at least 1.68 metres (5.6 inches) for male and 1.6 metres (5.4 inches) for female.
It also said that “Male candidates must have chest measurement of not less than 83 centimetres (34 inches) when fully expanded”.
Furthermore, apart from not having any physical deformities, every candidate will be required to pass a medical examination of physical fitness conducted by a government hospital, the statement said.
Method of Application
On method of application, the statement said that Application Forms could be downloaded free from the PSC web site (www.psc.gov.ng) and applicants are expected to complete the form in quadruplicate (four copies) and submit at the office of the Commissioner of Police of their state of origin.
Photocopies of credentials, letter of identification signed by the Chairman/Secretary of the candidate’s local government council and four recent passport photographs must also be submitted.
Timetable for Recruitment
Information subsequently published on the PSC’s website shows that the Timetable for the YEAR 2011 RECRUITMENT EXERCISE is as follows:
1. 13th June – 29th July 2011: Advertisement/Completion of Application forms and Submission to the Police State Commands (6 Weeks).
2. 15th – 20th Aug. 2011: Screening and written examination at the State Level (6 Days).
3. 29th Aug. 2011: Release of result at PSC Website and State Commands.
4. 12th – 17th Sept. 2011: Screening Interview at the Zonal Level – Authentication of Candidates Results (6 Days).
5. 26th Sept. 2011: Release of names of successful Candidates on PSC Website and Zonal Commands.
6. 10th – 15th Oct. 2011: Final Interview in Abuja (6 Days).
7. 31st Oct. 2011: Release of Names of Successful Candidates by Police Service Commission.
8. 7th Nov. 2011: Successful Candidates report at Police Academy Wudil, Kano State.
The Police Service Commission is the civilian oversight body established under the Nigerian Constitution for the Nigeria Police Force. It has power to appoint, promote, discipline and dismiss all officers of the Nigeria Police Force except the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
